About Milton, Ontario. Milton is part of the Halton Regional Municipality with an economy based on agriculture and a strong influence of new industry. There are many transportation networks linking Milton with other nearby communities including major highways such as the 401, 407 and Hwy 25 along with the Canadian National and Pacific Railways. In 1990 the Niagara Escarpment was designated as an International Biosphere Reserve by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization in order to protect and monitor the area's ecosystem. Nature lovers, hikers, rock climbers and skiers are all drawn to the many areas of the escarpment inlcuding Rattle Snake Point and Crawford Lake.
